VEC101 BUSINESS IN A DIGITAL
WORLD - Three Credits
The digital revolution has enabled organizations to communicate with anyone,
anywhere, and at any time, thus changing the traditional manner in which
business is conducted. Students are provided with an understanding of
the changing business environment as they become familiar with new communications
tools such as the Internet, Intranet, Extranet, and e-commerce and explore
ways in which these tools have grown into international communications
networks and have become business necessities.
VEC201 E-BUSINESS I
- Three Credits
Examines the impact of emerging technologies on business, focusing on
how these technologies are driving new global business models and revolutionizing
operational strategies. Utilizing the case study approach, students combine
theory and practice as they gain first-hand experience as e-consumers
on the World Wide Web and evaluate the impact of e-commerce on the traditional
marketplace. Fundamentals of creating an e-commerce business model are
explored. Prerequisite: VEC101
VEC202E-BUSINESS II Three
Credits
Students develop a business model for
e-commerce as it relates to every aspect of conducting business in the
new digital environment. Topics include information security and privacy,
operational processes, strategic planning, development costs, human relations
issues, infrastructure, marketing, and the new business environment. Prerequisite:
VEC201
VEC203 ADVERTISING AND
INTERNET MARKETING Three Credits
Advertising on the Internet is significantly different from advertising
via print, television, or radio. This course provides students with the
knowledge base required to understand the nature of the Internet as a
marketing medium. Students gain hands-on experience with various tools
and
techniques as they work in groups and utilize case studies to develop
and present an Internet advertising campaign. Prerequisite: VEC202.
VEC204 LEGAL AND ETHICAL
ISSUES IN E-BUSINESS Three Credits
Examines the legal aspects of e-commerce as well as the ethical and social
issues associated with computer technology and the Internet. Topics include
privacy, theft, intellectual property, copyright, hacking, cracking, firewalls,
digital signatures, contracts, warranties, liabilities, and enforcement.
